EVERY WINDOW TELLS A STORY
As part of their curriculum, students in the fourth grade art classes currently study the stained glass windows of medieval Europe.
In spring 2017, a grant from the Foundation enabled the students to visit the Union Church in Pocantico Hills, part of Historic Hudson Valley, in order to see for themselves the magnificent stained glass windows of Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse.
Says art teacher, Ms. Barrett: "Many students have never seen real stained glass windows (or original master art) and certainly not of this quality. They were quite simply, awestruck".
Back at WI, the children were given opportunities to reflect on their experiences and to create small works for their portfolios. Using day-glo paint and special paper, funded by the Foundation, each student created their own narrative in ink and watercolor.
