Pre-PLET'S GET MOVING
Many teachers have been noticing the increase of sensory issues amongst their students as academic pressure on even very young children seems to get greater every year. To help combat this, the Foundation partnered with the District in funding the Let's Get Moving project, to help the JP staff meet the needs of Pre-K and Kindergarten students who are having problems with gross motor skills and self-regulation skills, which can affect their learning abilities in grades to come.
This project involved a special needs assessment survey as well as professional development, before specific equipment could be purchased. Students learned how to navigate age-appropriate playground equipment, leading to increased attention span and improved body awareness while carrying out a task.
