BOOKMAKING

Bookbinding is a centuries old technique that combines the skills of a scholar with

the sophistication of an artisan. There are many ways to bind books and every

year, students in the sixth grade are taught a new technique. Students are taught

the techniques to make a book that they can then apply to other mediums. They

are taught the correct way to use the art tools and how to handle the supplies.

Incorporated into this experience is paper from different countries and binding

skills from other cultures. The end product for the students is a treasured

memory book that reflects their first year in middle school.
