S.T.E.A.M. Challenge
As part of our Creativity Grants process, the Foundation was able to fund special equipment for the Science Challenge enrichment program. Initially, the 3rd- 5th grade Science Challenge enrichment students piloted the materials but they were later shared with the whole student body.
Students used the components of the kit to create a variety of electronic projects as a class, then they split into small teams and went through the engineering design process to identify a need or want. Finally they created a solution that addressed this problem, all using the materials found in the kit.
These projects complemented the 3rd grade science unit on electricity, the 4th grade theme of modeling and prototyping, and the 5th grade study of simple machines and allowed students to create a variety of projects ranging in purpose, difficulty and creativity.
The resulting projects were demonstrated to families and friends at W.I. Science Night in June.
