GROSS MOTOR PORTABLE PLAYGROUND
All children need opportunities to run around outside, but students with special needs in particular often benefit from frequent movement breaks to help maximize their attention in the classroom. Up until now, these children have often been using the yard directly outside their classroom, which has no equipment or play supplies to enhance their gross motor growth and facilitate social interaction.
One of the Foundation's 2017 Creativity Grants, submitted by Ms. Yeater, will help create a special, portable playground that will motivate and engage the students while providing them with varying degrees of gross motor rigor and a structured play scheme. The fun noodle foam rods, rainbow squish steppers, human hoops and balance buckets, as well as other appropriate play apparatus, will be stored in a lockable storage shed so that the students will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
